frequently asked questions

what do I/we wear? will we have to know how to pose?

During our pre-session consultation we will discuss your personal aesthetic & style and I'll get an understanding of the mood / tone of your photos.  If you're shooting outdoors, the location and season will play a factor. If shooting in the studio, we'll discuss what backdrop color and props (if applicable) will look best. Then, I'll pull together a customized guide with inspiration on what you should wear.
As for posing, I direct all of this for you.  You just have to come ready with a smile. :)

Do you edit all of the images? Do you do skin retouching?

Not all of the shots taken will be edited.  I filter out all of the test shots, duplicate images, those with poor focus and other not-so-perfect expressions. Then, using my artistic eye and expertise, I choose the best photos for your particular package. For example, if you purchased a package with 10 images, I will choose the best 10 images from your shoot - and edit those.
Yes, I retouch skin texture and tone as well as edit out other distracting elements in photoshop. If you have any particular requests or callouts, please let me know during the shoot and I'll make note of it.

where will my session take place? do you shoot outdoors?

I offer both studio and outdoor photo sessions. Studio portraits will be taken in my studio in Fairfield, CT (1.5 hours from Manhattan). I also run seasonal mini sessions outdoors at pre determined locations as well as mini sessions in studio. Sign up for my emails (bottom of this page) to be the first to know when mini sessions are posted.

what is the ideal age to take newborn photos?

6 to 10 days is my ideal timeframe. This is when the baby is the sleepiest and when they most enjoy being in the swaddle and in the womb-like positions. I've found my most successful sessions are before 2 weeks old.  With that being said, we can make any newborn age work!

do you sell prints and wall art? are they guaranteed?

Yes! I highly recommend my clients to order all physical prints and custom framed pieces through me. I guarantee the quality of the print and the frame to last for your lifetime, or I will replace it.
The professional photo lab I work with, Still River Editions, is a Hahnemühle Certified Studio for archival digital printmaking using Epson wide-format inkjet printers, and Hahnemühle fine art papers. This certification assures a consistent workflow, and beautiful, archival, heirloom-worthy prints that will last a long time.
In regards to wall art, I have been professionally trained in custom, archival matting and framing and therefore, I am able to pass on much lower prices than a local framing shop.
With all this being said, I will NEVER pressure anyone to buy additional products from me.  I have been in this situation and would not want anyone to feel this way.

WHAT IS YOUR REFUND AND CANCELLATION POLICY?

For Full sessions, 50% of your package price is due at the time of booking to secure your appointment and allow me to begin preparing for your session. For Mini sessions I require full payment at the time of booking. Refunds are not permitted, but if you need to reschedule I will allow a one time complimentary date change up to 48 hours before your scheduled shoot.  Extreme and exceptional circumstances that require you to cancel do happen - I'm always flexible in these situations.
